What a day!

Our second annual Fall Native Plant Sale was a huge success, and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible people who helped make it happen — and, most importantly, our community.

Together, 247 customers stopped by to shop, learn, ask questions, and take home plants and resources that will help bring more native habitat into our community.

Here’s what our community made possible:

1 large composter sold
1 rain barrel sold
Lots of conservation books and shirts found new homes
247 customers connected with the Berrien County Conservation District

That’s more than a successful sale. It means hundreds of native plants are now headed to yards, gardens, farms, and landscapes throughout our community.

Why does that matter?

Native plants are adapted to Michigan’s soil, climate, and growing conditions. When planted in the right places, they can provide important food, shelter, and habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. Every native plant added to a landscape is another opportunity to support local biodiversity.

And with 524 quarts of native plants sold, the impact doesn’t stop at our office. These plants will continue growing, blooming, producing seeds, and providing habitat for years to come.

Our sale also helped connect people with other conservation practices. A rain barrel can help capture and reuse rainwater, while composting can return valuable organic matter and nutrients to the soil. Books and educational resources help take that knowledge home and share it with others.

A Community Effort

A very special thank you to Joe with More Trees & Plants! LLC for growing such beautiful native plants, sharing his expertise, and spending the day talking with our community as they shopped.

Thank you to Ms. Sue with the Xerces Society for joining us and sharing her knowledge about pollinators and the important role they play in our ecosystems.

Thank you to Molly from the Math and Science Center for volunteering her time and helping make the day such a success.

And, of course, thank you to our Berrien County Conservation District staff for all the work that happens behind the scenes — from planning and organizing to setting up, answering questions, selling plants, and making sure everything comes together.

But most of all, thank you to you, our community.

Every plant you purchase, every rain barrel you install, every garden you grow, and every conservation practice you put into action makes a difference.

We are so grateful that you continue to show up for conservation and for the place we all call home.

That is what happens when a community grows conservation together.
