Summer Stewardship in Action: Connecting Our Community to Conservation
Summer has been a busy season at the Berrien County Conservation District, and we couldn't be more grateful for the support of our community. Whether you've attended a workshop, stopped by our office, followed us on social media, or shared one of our posts, you've helped us continue our mission of protecting and enhancing Berrien County's natural resources.
Learning Through Hands-On Workshops
One of our favorite parts of summer is bringing people together to learn practical conservation skills. In July, participants joined us for our Intro to Herbs & Microgreens 101 workshop, where they learned about the medicinal benefits of herbs and microgreens, proper growing and harvesting techniques, and even created their own herbal capsules and tinctures. It's exciting to see so many community members eager to reconnect with nature and learn sustainable practices they can use at home.
Conservation Resources Beyond Workshops
Conservation isn't just about attending events—it's about having the right tools and resources when you need them.
Did you know the Berrien County Conservation District offers equipment rentals to help landowners complete conservation projects? From our Truax No-Till Drill to our Japanese Knotweed Herbicide Injector, these resources help make stewardship more accessible and affordable for our community.
We're also proud to continue offering conservation education, technical assistance, volunteer opportunities, and products that help improve wildlife habitat and water quality throughout the county.
Looking Ahead
Summer isn't slowing down!
We're excited to participate in the Monarch Festival at Love Creek Nature Center on August 8. Stop by our booth to meet our staff, enjoy a fun conservation craft for the kids, and learn more about protecting pollinators and other native wildlife. It's a wonderful event filled with conservation organizations, educational speakers, and family-friendly activities.
Later in August, you'll also find us in the Ag Building during the Berrien County Youth Fair. We love connecting with families, farmers, and future conservationists, so be sure to stop by and say hello!
Telling Our Story
This year we've made it a priority to share more of what conservation looks like in Berrien County. Through videos, educational posts, local stories, and community events, we're working to make conservation approachable, practical, and inspiring for everyone.
Conservation happens every day—whether you're planting native flowers, improving soil health, protecting water resources, supporting pollinators, or simply learning something new about the natural world.
